Square face, brow guide
Eyebrows for a square face
A square face already has strong angles at the jaw, so the brow can add a curve to soften it. A soft, rounded arch is usually more flattering than a sharp peak.
Thickness matters too. A very heavy, square brow repeats the jaw line, while a medium brow with a gentle curve gives the face something softer to read.

What works, and where it sits
The square face's strength is structure, so the brow should supply softness rather than more structure. A gentle arch and a tapered tail do that without making the face look weak.
- 1
Soft rounded arch
Let the brow curve gently rather than rising to a point. The roundness contrasts with the square jaw.
- 2
Medium thickness
A medium brow keeps the face balanced. Very thick brows add weight and can make the jaw look even stronger.
- 3
Tapered tail with a soft end
A tail that narrows gradually and ends level with the outer corner of the eye keeps the brow from looking blunt.
- 4
Slight inward start
Start the brow just inside the inner corner of the eye and keep the inner edge soft. A hard, squared inner edge adds another angle.

What works against it
None of these is a rule. They are the choices that tend to undo the balance the rest of the page builds.
A sharp, high peak
It adds another sharp angle to an already angular face. A soft curve works better.
A very heavy, straight brow
A flat, thick brow repeats the horizontal line of the forehead and jaw. Keep some curve and a little taper.
Questions
Questions about eyebrows
Should a square face have arched brows?
A soft arch, yes. A sharp peak adds another angle. Think curve rather than corner.
Are thick brows good for a square face?
Medium is better. Very thick brows add weight above a jaw that is already strong.
How long should the brow tail be?
To about the outer corner of the eye, tapering gently. A longer tail can drag the eye downward.
