Spring family, warm and clear

Warm Spring color palette

Golden, clear and a little louder than you think.

Warm spring is the middle of the spring family. The skin has a golden or peachy cast, the hair is warm brown, copper or golden blonde, and the eyes are often hazel or green with a warm ring around the pupil.

This palette is clear but not acid. Think marigold rather than lemon, coral rather than fuchsia, leaf green rather than emerald. The colors share a golden base, so they sit together without a neutral to separate them.

Neutrals

  • Cream
  • Camel
  • Warm Taupe
  • Chocolate

Yellow gold, and plenty of it. Bronze and copper also work. Silver looks flat next to this skin.

Colors to leave out

  • Dusty Rose. The gray in it fights the clarity of warm spring coloring and can make the skin look muddy.
  • Cool Gray. It drains the gold from the face, which is the one thing this palette is built to show.
  • Navy. Deep and cool at once. Use cream or camel as the dark neutral instead.
  • Icy Pink. Blue-based pink turns golden skin sallow rather than fresh.

Wearing it

How the palette works on a body

The rules are about placement and quantity, not about permission.

One clear color at a time

Marigold and turquoise are both strong. Wear one as the main color and let cream, camel or warm taupe do the rest, rather than pairing two saturated hues at full strength.

Warm neutrals carry the outfit

Camel, cream, warm taupe and chocolate are the backbone. They are the reason a warm spring can wear a suit without looking colorless.

Keep prints warm

A print with coral, leaf green and cream belongs in this wardrobe. The same print with gray and navy does not, even if the shapes are identical.

Skin and cheek

A warm peach or coral blush and a golden highlighter. Stay away from a cool pink blush, which sits on top of the skin rather than in it.

Eyes and lips

Bronze, copper and olive on the eyes. Lips in coral, tomato or warm red. A blue-red lipstick is the fastest way to make this palette look wrong.

Questions

Warm Spring questions

What is the difference between warm spring and warm autumn?

Clarity. A warm spring looks best in clear colors with a golden base, while a warm autumn looks best in the same hues muted and deeper: rust instead of coral, mustard instead of marigold.

Can a warm spring wear red?

Yes, a warm tomato or poppy red. Avoid a blue-based crimson, which reads as a winter red and turns the face pink by contrast.

Is turquoise really in the palette?

Warm turquoise with a green base, not icy aqua. The test is whether the color looks like it belongs beside marigold. If it does, it works.

Which hair colors suit this palette?

Golden brown, copper, auburn, honey blonde and warm chestnut. Ash tones and blue-black work against the palette.
